The Story Behind Raatree

I believe I was always meant to be in Mysore.
My parents brought me from this magical land as a child, under the protection of the Divine Mother Chamundeshwari. Over the years, I’ve traveled widely—across India and around the world—but Mysore has always felt like home.
I returned here as an adult in 2016, at a time when I was trying to recover from a persistent illness. What I found was more than just healing—it was a place deeply rooted in the knowledge and practice of yoga. Few places in the world hold such a concentrated lineage. Mysore is, in many ways, the home of modern yoga as we know it, shaped by the teachings of Acharya Krishnamacharya under the patronage of the Mysore royal family.
Over the years, I kept coming back—learning from different teachers, immersing myself in the rhythm of practice. Gokulam offers an abundance of yogacharyas, each with their own depth and perspective. You are truly spoilt for choice here.
But each visit came with a small challenge. Every time I arrived, I had to rebuild my living space—buying bedsheets, arranging lighting, finding basic comforts just to feel settled. I remain deeply grateful to the many people who helped along the way—shopkeepers, auto drivers who patiently waited while I gathered essentials, and strangers who made the process easier.
Still, after doing this again and again, it became clear—this effort takes away from what you really come here for.
So the idea for Raatree was simple:
Create a space where you can arrive and focus entirely on your yoga journey—not on setting up a home.
Raatree was envisioned in 2022 and opened its doors in June 2023.
The properties are located within walking distance of several respected yogacharyas and their shalas, making it easy to move between practice and rest. Gokulam itself is built around this lifestyle, with cafés, small stores, and everyday essentials all close by—you’ll find everything from fresh food to A2 milk and gluten-free options just around the corner.
At the heart of the neighborhood is a small temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaka, quietly holding the cultural rhythm of the area. It’s this blend of tradition, community, and daily practice that gives Gokulam its unique energy.
Raatree is simply an extension of that spirit—a space created to support your practice, your comfort, and your return.
Yoga. Stay. Slow living.
